How can Europeans ensure that the world develops ethical algorithms? What does it mean for an algorithm to be “ethical”? Can math be ethical?

We discuss these questions and many others with our latest guest, Mercedes Siles Molina, on The Digital Rights Podcast. Siles Molina is a professor of algebra at the University of Malaga, a member of the Malaga Academy of Sciences, as well as a member of the Hermes Foundation advisory board.

As part of the “Ethical and Responsible Algorithms for Human Development Seminar,” the Hermes Foundation has developed the R2T2 formula to promote reviewable, responsible, transparent, and traceable algorithms. “An agency like the Medicine Agency should be created to regulate technology,” adds Siles Molina, “so that it can be tested, its contents can be known, and its impact understood.”

In addition, we explain the difference between artificial and human intelligence. “We must bear in mind that artificial intelligence is an emulation of thought, but human beings are thought and also flesh and materiality,” says the expert.
